Goombas are enemies that appear in the Mario series and the Luigi's Mansion series. Ever since their debut in Super Mario Bros., they have been common enemies. In the Luigi's Mansion series, they first appear in Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted Dreams and later appeared in Luigi's Mansion 5: Curse of the Mansion. They are weak and can be defeated by either sucking them up with the Poltergust or by being stepped on.

Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted Dreams[]
In the Luigi's Mansion series, Goombas first appear in Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted Dreams as common enemies. There are several types of Goombas that appear in the game. The normal Goombas act like the ones in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, as when they see Luigi, they will attack him by running into him. If a Goomba is defeated by being stepped on, it will produce a coin. Luigi can stun a Goomba by shooting a Ghost Comb at it, which flips it over, giving Luigi a chance to defeat it by simply kicking it once he walks over to it, which will produce three Ghost Combs. Sucking it up with the Poltergust 5000 will also defeat it, which also produces three Ghost Combs. A Grand Goomba appears in the Daydome Mansion.
A variety of Goombas known as Octogoombas make an appearance as common enemies also. Their attack is by headbutting Luigi if he gets to close. There are three varieties of Octogoombas: Octogoombas, Octoguys, and Octopi.
Luigi's Mansion 5: Curse of the Mansion[]
Goombas reappear in Luigi's Mansion 5: Curse of the Mansion with the same attacks. Grand Goombas and Octogoombas, along with Octoguys, and Octopi reappear. Unlike in Haunted Dreams, Octogoombas not only headbutt Luigi, but also spit rocks if he gets too close. Also, Grand Goombas are a lot more common in this game than in the prequel, however, they only appear in the Ultrasize Mansion.
Luigi's Mansion 6: U Are Doomed!![]
Goombas reappear in Luigi's Mansion 6: U Are Doomed!!. The same types also reappear. Octogoombas will once again try to spit rocks at the player. There is also a new type of Goomba called the Golden Goomba. Only one Golden Goomba appears in the game, in the Goomba Garden Mansion, where it has a Power Star. To make the Golden Goomba release the Power Star, Luigi must find the Golden Shell in the level and he must throw it at it. After that, Luigi will finally receive the Power Star from the Golden Goomba.
