||Luigi's Mansion 6: U Are Doomed!! (2012)|
Golden Shells are a rare variety of shells that appear in Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted Dreams. Unlike other shells, Golden Shells can break open gold chests and when used underwater, the speed boost they give is faster than those given by other shells.
In one of the levels of the Super Shell Mansion known as "All That Glitters is a Gold Shell", there is a golden treasure chest at the beginning of the level with a green Koopa Troopa guarding it. The Koopa Troopa's shell cannot break the chest, so Luigi will have to explore the mansion to find the Gold Shell that is hidden while advancing through a maze. After retrieving the Golden Shell that is hidden, Luigi must bring it back to the start of the level while avoiding the enemies and hazards lest he hits an enemy and loses the shell. Luigi then must throw the shiny shell at the gold chest, revealing a Power Star. Luigi then retrieves it.
Its second appearance in the game is in the Wet Wave Mansion, in the level, "Waves and Shells". Once again, the golden treasure chest makes an appearance. The Golden Shell is located on one of the waves that is moving towards the shore. To retrieve it, Luigi must swim to the wave and he will automatically be pushed towards the shell, grabbing it. He then must use it to break open the shell that appears near the cottage, thus, revealing a Power Star.
Golden Shells reappear in Luigi's Mansion 6: U Are Doomed!!. They are still uncommon, but it should be noted that they are slightly more common in this game, appearing in several mansions. They serve the same purpose as they did in Haunted Dreams, as they can break open gold treasure chests. In the Goomba Garden Mansion, in the level, "The Golden Goomba", they are also used for defeating the Golden Goomba to obtain the level's Power Star.
